MEADOW CERAMIC FLASK NO.1 is one of ten unique ceramic works exploring the continuation of ornament through craft.
Developed from AVILLAFRANCISKA’s jacquard-woven MORNING MEADOW, individual archival motifs are carried from textile into ceramic, giving each flask its own composition and material expression.
The form is designed and freehand engraved by Nikolaj Mentze of Studio 0405 and individually slab-built by ceramicist Franca Christophersen in light stoneware. Selected elements from MORNING MEADOW are transferred onto the ceramic surface and freehand engraved, before being finished with a polar white glaze and a soft satin matte overlay. Subtle variations created through the firing process give each piece its individual character.
The flask can be used as a vase for flowers, a carafe for water, or simply as an object in its own right, leaving its use open to individual interpretation.
Each flask is accompanied by an individually fitted, hand-sewn MEADOW SLEEVE in AVILLAFRANCISKA’s MORNING MEADOW jacquard. The textile envelops the ceramic form and becomes part of the object itself, connecting archive, textile and ceramic.
